The Sunflower Rising™
The Sunflower Rising™ isn’t just a photoshoot.
It’s not just a day spent in a field surrounded by beautiful flowers.
It’s a movement.
It’s about women — all women — coming together to rise.
To stop hiding.
To stop shrinking.
To stop waiting until we’re “enough” to finally feel worthy of being seen.
It’s about celebrating ourselves — exactly as we are — in every size, every stage, every season of life.
For me, this comes from a deeply personal place.
I’ve spent most of my life on a teeter-totter with my body and the scale. I’ve gained, I’ve lost, I’ve gained again. Before kids, I had the time and energy to work out twice a day, seven days a week. But life shifted, my priorities changed, and my body’s been through a lot.
Now, I live with sleep apnea, chronic migraines, high blood pressure, IBS, and perimenopause. My weight can fluctuate five to ten pounds in a single day, and honestly?
Most days, I don’t care about the number anymore.
I care about how I feel.
But then came the appointment that lit a fire in me.
I sat in my sleep doctor’s office, already exhausted and vulnerable, when she looked at me and said, “You’re severely obese.”
She even referred me to an obesity clinic in Calgary. Maybe she thought she was helping, but in that moment, I felt crushed. Discouraged. Angry.
Severely obese.

That’s when it hit me: this system is broken.
We are reduced to numbers on a chart — BMI charts, by the way, that were designed by men over 200 years ago — without anyone asking about our stories, our genetics, our hormones, our trauma, or the weight we carry that has nothing to do with pounds.
And it’s not just the medical system — it’s everywhere.
Everywhere we turn, there’s another “rule” or “trend” shoved in our faces:
Eat this. Don’t eat that.
Almond milk is amazing… until it isn’t.
Carbs are bad… until they’re suddenly good again.
Fast. Don’t fast.
Eat meat. Don’t eat meat.
Juice, but not that juice.
I’m a grown-ass woman, and even I feel overwhelmed!
Add in my IBS, and lately, it doesn’t seem to matter what I eat or drink — I feel bloated and miserable. Yet, when I’m in Mexico, I eat tacos almost every single day, sip the occasional cerveza, and somehow lose 15 pounds of bloat in two weeks.
It’s exhausting.
We are drowning in mixed messages.
And I realized…
We have to do better.
We can all do better.
Because at the end of the day — who cares what someone looks like?
Love people for who they are, not the size of their jeans. You don’t know what they’re carrying — menopause, depression, genetics, illness, or just the sheer overwhelm of where to even start.
This is why I created The Sunflower Rising™.
I wanted to build a space where women can rise together.
A space where we’re reminded that our worth has nothing to do with a scale, a diagnosis, or anyone else’s opinion of us.
The sunflower became the symbol because it holds everything this movement stands for:
🌻 Resilience. Light. Growth. Rising.
No matter how dark it gets, sunflowers instinctively turn toward the sun.
And so will we.
This isn’t just a photoshoot.
It’s an invitation.
An invitation to stand tall.
To take up space.
To be seen — exactly as you are.
To rise, together.
This is The Sunflower Rising™.
And this is only the beginning.
